About Selampass
A small platform with a big mission — connecting the Ethiopian diaspora in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
Our Story
SelamPass started with a simple observation: the Ethiopian diaspora in the DMV is one of the largest and most vibrant Habesha communities outside of Ethiopia — but there was no single place to discover what our community was doing. No platform built by us, for us.
So we built one. From cultural nights in Silver Spring to injera dinners in Alexandria, coffee ceremonies in Rockville to live music in DC — SelamPass is where the Habesha community in the DMV shows up and shows out.
We're a small, independent platform just getting started. We don't have thousands of listings yet — but every event on here is real, every partner is verified, and every dollar collected goes directly to the people hosting the experience.
What We Stand For
The principles that guide everything we do
Community First
Built by the diaspora, for the diaspora. Every decision we make asks one question: does this serve the Habesha community in the DMV?
Honest & Transparent
No fake numbers, no hype. We tell it like it is — we're new, we're growing, and we're building this with the community's trust as our foundation.
Simple by Design
No memberships, no complicated systems. List an event, book a pass, show up and enjoy. That's it.
Fair to Partners
91% of every booking goes directly to the host. We only earn when you earn — no upfront fees, ever.
Who's Building This

Yared Sima
Founder
I built SelamPassbecause I kept missing events in the DMV — not because they didn't exist, but because there was no central place to find them. I'm Habesha, I live in Virginia, and I want our community to have something we can call our own.
This is still small. But it's real, it's ours, and it's growing. If you want to talk, you can reach me directly at hello@selampass.com.
